Chalumeaux

Chalumeaux are available in Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. There are very few surviving chalumeaux to copy. Therefore my chalumeaux are not based solely on originals but also on my own judgement and the pioneering work of Eric Hoeprich.

Chalumeaux are generally of boxwood, but because the mouthpiece is integrated into the instrument many players prefer the stability that comes with a denser tropical wood such as ebony or palisander.

In addition to boxwood I build chalumeaux in a variety of palisanders, ebony and even grenadilla depending on the requirements of the customer. Please ask for availability and price of alternative woods.
